According to the Clovis Fire Department, Fire Station 2 received all new upgrades to better serve the growing southwest community. Located in the Helm Ranch Area, the new facility replaces the original station built in 1976.
Firefighters say the previous 6,300-square-foot station served the community for nearly 50 years, however, an assessment in 2019 revealed structural deterioration, limited accessibility, and space constraints.
Crews say city officials quickly secured funding to rebuild the station to address current and future needs. The upgrades include a 35% expansion to 8,488 square feet, improved accommodations for firefighters, expanded capacity for apparatus and state-of-the-art safety features.
Anyone who would like to join Clovis firefighters in welcoming their upgraded facility and attend the grand opening and open house on Saturday, May 17. The event will take place at 2300 Minnewawa Ave. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
