The incident occurred at 5:06 p.m. at Beech Street and North Mount Street in Pottstown.
An officer was responding to a two-car crash when one of the vehicle occupants tried to reach for a gun inside the car.
The officer began struggling with the male to get the firearm away from him which is when the male got out of the car and began fleeing towards his residence on Winding Road.
Once he arrived he began shooting at the officers, ending up shooting one of the officers in the shoulder.
Police began shooting back but did not hit the male.
The suspect then barricaded himself inside the home for several hours. According to reports, one person was detained by police at 11 p.m.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
