Friday was a cool day, with highs only topping out officially in the upper 40s, a reading more than 5 degrees lower than Thursday’s high temperature. It marked the beginning of a string of days where highs will fail to reach or exceed the “normal high.”

Sunshine was briefly seen early Friday morning, but an overcast assembled by lunchtime, shortly before the Chicago Cubs’ home opener against the San Diego Padres. April is off to a cloudy start.

Winds gusted past 20 mph at times off Lake Michigan, and  helped restrict high temperatures in lakeside areas to the lower 40s.

Tree pollen continues to elevated, currently in the moderate range, while mold is low. All other categories are absent at this time.
