Firefighter injured battling Belvidere blaze, home damaged

BELIVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — The Belvidere Fire Department fought off a heavy blaze that left one firefighter with minor injuries on Saturday.

Around 2 p.m., fire crews were called to the 400 block of West 5th Street for a blaze that started outside the house. The fire spread to the back of the home.

Multiple agencies were called to assist, including Boone County District 2, Boone County District 3, Cherry Valley Fire Protection District, Marengo Fire Protection District, Boone County Emergency Management Agency, and the Belvidere Police Department.

No occupants of the home were injured, but one firefighter was injured while putting out the fire.

The crew member was transported to Mercyhelath Hospital for treatment and was released around 6 p.m.

Estimated damage costs have yet to be determined.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
