Indianapolis Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase on I-69

Written from press release

BLOOMFIELD, Ind. — April 4, 2025

A high-speed pursuit that began in Greene County early Friday morning ended with the arrest of an Indianapolis man after he fled into a wooded area in Monroe County, authorities said.

According to a news release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Jordan Allor was monitoring traffic on Interstate 69 near the 102 mile marker around 12:15 a.m. on April 4 when he observed two vehicles speeding northbound.

Sgt. Allor initiated a traffic stop at the E. State Road 445 exit. Both vehicles initially pulled to the shoulder, but the front vehicle—a 2010 bronze Nissan Murano—fled the stop by continuing northbound on the shoulder. The rear vehicle, a 2002 red Chevrolet Camaro, remained at the scene.

The fleeing vehicle led deputies on a pursuit into Monroe County. At the 111 mile marker, the driver lost control and left the roadway before fleeing on foot into a nearby wooded area. After a 45-minute search, a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy located and arrested the driver, identified as Tyler J. Smith of Indianapolis, on Lodge Road.

Smith was booked into the Greene County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Level 6 felony, and reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor.

Meanwhile, officers with the Martinsville Police Department located the Camaro and its driver in Morgan County. The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to review and file reckless driving charges in that case.

Multiple agencies assisted in the incident, including the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Bloomington Police Department, Martinsville Police Department, Monroe County Fire, IU Health Ambulance Service, and Ken’s Westside Towing.
