In the HQ, families can extract the survivalists but also are helping them get resources to help them survive. The show that started with 12 families now has five and one of those five is Baton Rouge natives Meagan Delatte-Murphy and her father Gerrad Delatte and her best friend Abby.
“We are still here,” said Delatte.
“I know. It’s like we’re still hanging by a thread, but we’re still existing in this challenge,” said Murphy.
As the show unfolds, Murphy has gone through many challenges, testing her survival skills in many ways. She recalls freezing temperatures, tackling rain and starvation during the competition.
“You’re starving each day, and you just have to figure it out and your body is going to react to what you’re eating, what you’re not eating,” she said. “I was eating those mushrooms every single day, those were my breakfast, my lunch, and dinner. I would eat berries and mushrooms and drink tea.”
For Gerrad, being in the HQ was also not easy.
“To work with them was great. But then when you have to make decisions that may not go their way or not is very, very hard,” he said. “And that’s what I struggle with because it’s like, ‘who do you, I guess, help more or hurt more or try to hurt less as possible,'” he said.
As the show is down to its last five families, both said viewers can expect intense episodes.
“There will be things that we will have to do that we look like insane because, I mean, we’re either starving, we need these things. We are fighting at this point for our lives after this one challenge. I mean, game on,” she said.
Both say they enjoy the experience and are proud to represent Louisiana, thanking their Louisiana roots and Louisiana viewers who have shown support.
“You feel proud that you’re doing it and that you get to kind of represent where you’re from,” she said.
“Louisiana is the Sportsman’s Paradise. So we kind of brought that to Canada, I guess,” he said.
If you’re interested in keeping up with the Baton Rouge family, Extracted airs every Monday on FOX.
