Pleasant Grove’s Hunter Rose named Player of the Week

TEXARKANA, TX  (KTAL/KMSS) — After spending a portion of last season injured, Pleasant Grove junior Hunter Rose is taking full advantage of a healthy start to the season. From the outfield, to the mound in the batter’s box, he’s finding ways to help the Hawks win all across the field.

“I just love being around my best friends,” Rose said. “That’s my favorite part, practicing with them and hanging around.”

It’s easy to work hard when you’re doing it with and for people you love. That’s exactly what Rose does.

“His freshman year he was unbelievably quiet, didn’t talk,” head coach Riley Fincher said. “And now his confidence level is growing, you say that in the way he interacts with his team and leads.”

Rose has always love baseball, but this year, he has a new appreciation for the game.

“Last year he broke his hand before the season started, and you could tell it upset him and bothered him he wasn’t going to get a chance to play,” Fincher said. “But when he came back he was stronger than ever.”

“Yeah I was really devastated about it but I was just glad to come back and everyone greet me well and everything so it worked out,” Rose said.

Now with Rose at 100% he’s impacting the game in big ways.

“Hunter for three years has been a huge part of our team, whether he’s playing in the field, or he’s up there pitching on the mound, or at the plate,” Fincher said. “He’s really stepped up his game this year at the plate offensively and he’s been a huge part of the offense.”

But those aren’t the only roles Rose has on the team.

“I think I’m the comedian,” Rose said. “I don’t know I think everyone thinks that but I don’t know.”

“Hunter’s quiet funny. He’ll be very quiet and stay to himself and then he’ll say something and its pretty good,” Fincher said. “He keeps the team light but he’s also someone when its time to compete he competes. He gives everything he has for our team.”

And Rose will continue to give it his all through the end of the season.

“I’ve made a really good bond with everyone this year and so its been really fun hanging out with everyone,” Rose said. “I want to win state. That’s the main goal. Have fun out here and win state.”
