How do Metairie kids warm up the neighborhood?

METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — They never did anything like this before.

They are seventh graders at St. Angela Merici School in Metairie.

After learning computer coding, they really got calculating and learned how to make a quilt.

They got so good at it, WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood discovered, they made two quilts.

They never thought of themselves as quilt making kids.

But they learned it from teacher Anne Troutman.

The kids put the squares together then called in a couple of their grandmothers to help sew them all together.

“You’re really giving them all the hard work and warmth. Knowing there is somebody there for them. When they look at that quilt, they will know who gave them that quilt and that’s what you’re really giving them when you give a quilt,” said Michael.

After that, they went on a trip to visit a couple of the school’s neighbors.

Now, the neighbors are friends.
