Critical injuries for man in two-car crash on Route 176

MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. (WTVO) — A man suffered critical injuries in a two car crash on Route 176 near Union on Tuesday morning.

According to the Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts and the Union Fire Protection District, first responders went to the intersection of Route 176 and North Union Road at 7:59 a.m., where the driver of one car was found unconscious and “heavily entrapped” in his vehicle.

The extrication took approximately one hour while a flight crew from a local hospital landed in an adjacent field and provided medical care throughout the rescue.

The injured man was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The driver of the second car involved was taken to Northwest Medicine Huntley Hospital by what officials described as “moderate” injuries.
