Eric Dewayne Green, 19, was found guilty by a unanimous jury for the January 27, 2022, slaying of 17-year-old Deanthony Walker
Shreveport police officers arrived at the scene and found Walker deceased, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; crime scene investigators recovered 26 9mm casings and three .357 caliber casings.
Doorbell camera footage acquired from a nearby residence showed a black Kia Soul, which investigators learned was stolen earlier that morning, drive past the victim as he walked down Harvard. The Soul then stopped in the middle of the road, and one of the occupants called the victim to the car.
At that time, Green exited the vehicle from the back driver’s side seat and fired 17 9mm rounds at Walker using a Glock 19 pistol. One of the two other co-defendants is alleged to have fired a .357-caliber gun from the passenger side rear vehicle as the victim ran away. The third co-defendant, seated in the front passenger seat, got out of the car, walked to Deanthony Walker, and allegedly shot him point-blank, while he was on the pavement.
The same Kia was involved in a chase with police two days later. The occupants fled but were arrested nearby. The fourth occupant in the vehicle told police that Green and two other teens were in the Kia on the day Walker was shot and that he witnessed the shooting. Police seized Green’s cellphone when he was apprehended.
Location data retrieved from the phone showed that Green was parked across the street from Booker T. Washington High School before Walker left school. The Kia Soul was captured on the high school’s surveillance video, driving in front of the school and parking in the parking lot across the street as Walker left school. Additionally, location data showed that he was less than a block away from where the homicide took place.
The gun used by Green was found at a co-defendant’s home and was determined to have fired 17 of the 26 9mm casings recovered from the scene. Green’s DNA was also found on multiple items inside the Kia Soul.
Green will return to court for sentencing on April 14, 2025, where he will be sentenced to a mandatory life term. However, because he was a juvenile at the time of the slaying, he will be parole eligible – eventually.
