Pearl Police Chief Nick McClendon said the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on March 21 when an officer stopped a vehicle on Interstate 20. He said the vehicle had a swapped license plate.
McClendon said the driver, who was identified as Leonard Clemons, of Bolton, refused to provide identification and fled to Jackson. The chase ended when a tactical vehicle intervention was executed at the intersection of Maddox Road and South McRaven Road.
According to the police chief, Clemons got out of the vehicle and ran away. He was captured a short distance away.
Clemons was found to have multiple outstanding warrants with the Pearl Police Department. He has been charged with felony fleeing, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to appear, and multiple traffic violations.
Hinds County deputies, Richland police and Capitol police also assisted during the incident.
