Orleans Parish School Board announces semi-finalist in Superintendent search

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish School Board has narrowed its search for the new superintendent.

The search comes after former Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams stepped down in 2024 after becoming the first woman to hold the position in 181 years, in 2022.

The three finalists are:

  • Interim Superintendent of NOLA Public Schools Dr. Fateama S. Fulmore
  • BESE District 2 Representative and Charter Director of Sophie B. Wright High School in New Orleans Dr. Sharon Latten-Clark
  • CEO of the Sims-Fayola Foundation Dr. Dedrick Sims

“This marks a crucial turning point for NOLA Public Schools, and we are confident that this selection process will guide us to a leader who will inspire and advance our district. We deeply appreciate all the applicants for stepping forward to serve,” said said OPSB President Katie Baudouin.

A special meeting will be held Tuesday, March 25 when the board will hold its first round of interviews and select the finalists.

“We are excited to learn more about these outstanding semifinalists, each bringing a rich blend of experience and a profound dedication to education,” said Baudouin.
