Former Illinois House Speaker Madigan faces sentencing in corruption case

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — A sentencing date has officially been set for former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Madigan will return to court to learn his sentence on June 13th.

A jury convicted Madigan on bribery and other corruption charges earlier this year.

He will turn 83 next month but could face a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

The prosecution and the defense will submit their respective sentencing recommendations by the end of May.

A week before his sentencing, Madigan will learn how much he must pay in restitution.
