OPELOUSAS, La. (
KLFY) — The
Opelousas Police Department is investigating an accidental shooting that resulted in one person being injured and another arrested, on March 11.
Officials said they responded to the Opelousas General Hospital after receiving a report of a shooting victim who had been transported by private vehicle. Upon arrival, officials located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Officials said he victim, provided minimal details about the incident. However, further interviews with a second individual, who assisted in transporting the victim to the hospital, revealed that the shooting occurred inside a residence while the two were horse-playing.
According to the witness, a firearm fell from his pocket, and as he attempted to retrieve it, the gun accidentally discharged, striking the victim.
Officials determined that the individuals involved are related and ruled the incident as an accidental shooting. As a result, Jakaylen Hollier was arrested and charged with negligent injury.
