Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a man who allegedly attempted to cut off a relative’s ankle monitor.

JPSO deputies said that on Tuesday, March 11, an ankle monitor company reported a tampering alert on a monitor tracking Kyana Traylor who had recently been released on bond following a 2024 homicide investigation.

The monitor tracked Traylor to a location at the corner of Poland Avenue and Dauphine Street in New Orleans.

Responding agents found Traylor and a man, identified as 49-year-old Kerry Sterling, her brother, attempting to remove the monitor from her leg.

Deputies arrested Traylor but reported that Sterling got into a vehicle and fled. An arrest warrant was issued for tampering with electronic monitoring equipment and accessory after the fact to manslaughter.

On March 15, the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office located Sterling working at the Madison Parish Hospital and despite members of the hospital staff attempting to prevent his arrest, he was taken into custody.

JPSO Captain Jason Rivarde reports Sterling will be returned to Jefferson Parish in the coming days.
