Power outage disrupts operations at Mt. Hood Meadows

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As heavy mountain snow makes its way to the Cascades this weekend, Mt. Hood Meadows experienced a power outage.

The ski resort said they saw an underground power failure from their main base area to Hood River Meadows on Saturday. As a result, they had had to temporarily close some lifts, which are now back open.

Although they add they have backup power, the resort said they may not be able to open Heather chairlift on Sunday.

“We have a Team working on it and expect to get it resolved, but do not have an estimate on that time,” a Meadows spokesperson told KOIN 6 News via email.

For more information on power outages in the area, check maps from Portland General Electric and Pacific Power.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Cascades now through 11 p.m. Sunday, with as much as 2-4 feet of snow expected in the Cascades above 4,000 feet over the weekend.

Anyone with plans to head up to the mountain should prepare for winter driving conditions in the mountains through the weekend, as the passes will be snow-covered through at least next Tuesday.
