In the 3rd inning, Oregon State got on the board after Aiva Arquette brought in a run. Following an error by the GCU right fielder, Easton Talt singled to right field allowing both Canon Reeder and Tyce Peterson to score two runs, putting the Beavers up 3-0 after three innings.
In the 5th inning, the Beavers would bring in another run, but the game changer came in the 6th when Trent Caraway hit a two-run homer to left field. This gave Oregon State a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Grand Canyon wasn’t done though, they made a major comeback with a huge four-run 8th inning, bringing the score to 6-4. Eddy Pelc drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Antelopes on the board, and Kade Huff’s groundout brought in another run. A throwing error allowed Zach Yorke to score, and Scuba Smolinski’s single up the middle trimmed OSU’s lead to 6-4.
The Beavers had a chance to respond, but couldn’t get any momentum going before heading into the final inning.
In spite of the late charge, Oregon State held their ground and scored the victory thanks to a spectacular catch by Talt for the final out in the 9th. The Beavers maintain their perfect home record with the win.
On Saturday, the Beavers will take on Santa Clara before continuing the series against Grand Canyon on Sunday, but the weather may have an impact all weekend long.
