The board would allocate host fee funds to the Rockford Area Venues and Entertainment Authority (RAVE), which oversees the BMO Center.
Nearly $400,000 a year would be granted for the next five years.
The BMO Center recently underwent improvements thanks to funding from the Chicago Blackhawks, which owns and operates the Rockford IceHogs hockey team.
The board said the money will ensure the BMO Center remains competitive with other American Hockey League venues.
