IMPD: 9-year-old struck by vehicle on east side

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after a nine-year-old was hit by a vehicle on the east side Thursday evening.

According to the Indianapolis Metro Police Department, officers were called just before 5:30 p.m. on the report of a personal injury accident. This occurred at the intersection of Shenandoah Drive and Galeston Drive, IMPD said.

When officers arrived, they found a juvenile bicyclist with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. IMPD said they also located an SUV, whose driver stayed on-scene during the investigation.

The nine-year-old was transported to an area hospital shortly thereafter. They are currently reported to be in stable condition.

IMPD said their preliminary investigation shows impairment is a possible factor in the crash. However, that has not yet been confirmed.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for future updates.
