Woman, 56, seriously injured by hit-and-run driver in Portage Park crosswalk, Chicago police say

CHICAGO — Chicago police are looking for the driver in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a pedestrian Wednesday night in Portage Park on the city’s Northwest Side.

The victim, who police say is a 56-year-old woman, remains hospitalized at Lutheran General in Park Ridge, where she’s reportedly in critical condition.

According to police, the woman was in a crosswalk in the 5900 block of West Irving Park Road just before 8 p.m. Wednesday when she was hit by a black SUV going west on Irving Park. After hitting the victim, police say the driver took off rather than stopping to help.

Police say nobody is yet in custody, and Area Five detectives are investigating.

While it isn’t clear whether the crash was captured by surveillance cameras on businesses, the intersection where the crash occurred is photo-enforced and also has a POD camera, so it’s possible there may be video of the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to reach out to CPD.
