New Orleans truck parades roll through the streets after rescheduling

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — They may have been delayed, but the New Orleans truck parades had a chance to roll post-Mardi Gras day.

“I’m excited too. It looks great. Those floats are fabulous. We’re going to have a wonderful, great day,” said New Orleans Police Department Chief Anne Kirkpatrick.

A great day it was as the Krewe of Elks and the Crescent City Truck Parades rolled through the streets of New Orleans.

“As you can see, people on the streets, they ready for me,” said Krewe of Orleanians Parade Captain Bryan Ruiz.

With more than 4,000 riders, Ruiz says the truck parade is amazing because it’s made up of regular, everyday people.

“We have waitresses, cooks, people who cut grass, people clean up, plumbers, electricians. These people all build their own floats. It’s family and friends, a lot of them, to get together and come up with ideas and decorate the float,” said Ruiz.

Justin Moore did a twirl as he came out to catch the truck parade for the first time. Being someone who rides in several parades, he expressed that it’s always his favorite time of the year.

“Kids, adults, older, younger, everybody. Everybody enjoys it and its camaraderie. It’s getting together as a community. We do parades all the time, and that’s my favorite part about it, is to see everybody’s faces and everybody enjoying themselves,” said Moore.

Even crossing state lines, many say it’s always a great feeling in New Orleans when a parade is involved.

“It’s no other state in the world that can do it like this. I don’t care what kind of festivals that they have. New Orleans Mardi Gras is the bomb,” said Gwendolyn Ford.
