Maureen Barclay, librarian and media specialist at Captain Shreve, talked about the importance of the outreach program and the resources it offers. “This gives our students an opportunity to have one on one access with that technology and really have fun get lots of experience.” Barclays also noted that students gained some soft skills, like collaboration and communication with other students. “It’s a great way to get them off of phone screens and just interacting, and having fun with other teenagers, and looking forward to the school day.”
In addition to providing STEM programming, the Make & Go Mobile Makerspace provides arts and craft supplies, SNAP circuits, and sewing and embroidery tools.
Loretta Casteen, a Programming and Outreach Specialist at Shreveport Memorial Library, mentioned that mobile makerspace is available for public events in Caddo Parish but not for private functions.
