‘Armed and dangerous’ Oregon murder suspect Gary Cavan taken into custody

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man has been taken into custody after being suspected of murder in connection to a woman who was found dead in a hotel room in eastern Oregon late last month, authorities said.

Gary Cavan was apprehended by law enforcement east of Prairie City, Grant County Emergency Management said in a Facebook post on Wednesday. The Grants County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Cavan was in custody to KOIN 6 News.

Cavan, 42, had been considered “armed and dangerous,” according to the Grant County District Attorney’s Office.

On Feb. 28, the body of 41-year-old Janelle Klaar was found inside a room at the John Day Motel in John Day, Oregon, following a welfare check conducted by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The DA’s Office signed a warrant for his arrest that same day.

No other details were immediately available.
