Storms cause damage, power outages in Mississippi

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Ahead of a strong line of storms, damage has already been reported in Mississippi.

In Vicksburg, a home in the 900 block of First North Street was blown down by high winds on Tuesday, March 4. The Warren County EMA director said no one was inside the home at the time of the incident.

Officials said Madison County deputies responded to a downed power line on Tuesday, which caused a brush fire and led to injuries. The incident occurred on Winter Teal Place.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said a tree fell on a home on Gardenview Drive off of Spillway Road on Tuesday. The sheriff said a power pole was blown down in Star, which started a brush fire.

The City of Brandon reported trees were down at the following locations on Tuesday:

  • Trickhambridge and Grants Ferry
  • North Street blocking the road close to the Public Works barn
  • Old Depot Drive with power lines involved

As of 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Entergy Mississippi reported more than 16,100 power outages.
