Search continues for missing Siletz 2-year-old Dane Paulsen
SILETZ, Ore. (KOIN) — A Siletz 2-year-old who went missing on Saturday remains missing more than two full days since he was last spotted in his parents’ front yard.

Dane Paulsen was last seen around 4:30 p.m. March 1 in his yard near Milepost 21 on Hwy 229. Since then nearly 100 certified search-and-rescue members have scoured a total of 311 miles and 682 acres looking for the boy who was described by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office as “friendly and fearless, and is comfortable around strangers and water, but cannot swim.”

Investigators said Sunday there is “no evidence at this time to suggest criminal actions are involved in this incident.”

Volunteers are working with the certified searchers. Authorities said the volunteers have covered about 230 acres in the search zone.

Volunteer Tammy Hads expressed a common emotion.

“This is every family’s tragedy,” she said. “This is horrible. Yeah. So I came out here because, we’ve it’s a mom calls for help. I want to come. So. Yeah. So that’s why I’m here.”

Another volunteer, Jeff Lawrence, is also an Elks Lodge officer who fishes the Siletz River often. The river, he told KOIN 6 News, is “medium to where 3 days ago the river was quite a bit higher and a lot faster.”

Lawrence said there are people from Castle Rock, Washington and Boise, Idaho who came to search. “We’ve got our own smaller maps that we’re using compared to what the sheriff’s office has.”

The search also includes watercraft, divers, drones and K9s all looking for the young boy. Authorities said the search would continue Monday night and Tuesday.

On Sunday evening, authorities said a car that had been seen near Paulsen’s home around the time he was last seen had been found and was “no longer a point of interest.”

Hads, who took time off work to help with the search, has one hope.

“I hope he’s found so that there is closure, I hope he is found,” she said. “A all of us are with you.”
