Deadly sports bar shooting leads to homicide investigation

PHILADELPHIA (WPHL) — A man died from a gunshot wound to the head following an altercation at a sports bar the Fairhill neighborhood of Philadelphia early Sunday morning.

Investigators said the victim was inside the bar before the shooting but was kicked out by security personnel. After leaving, the man returned to the 809 Sports Bar on North 2nd Street with a firearm. When security confronted the man, the victim was gunned down.

Around 2:40 a.m., Police responded to a radio call reporting a “person with a gun,” and found the man unresponsive upon their arrival. Officers rushed the man to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Homicide Unit with the Philadelphia Police Department is investigating the incident.
