Heavy machinery kills man in Calcasieu Parish

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) — A Sulphur man was crushed to death when a piece of heavy machinery fell on him, authorities said.

Deputies said Marcus D. Humphries, 21, of Sulphur, died after he was crushed by a piece of heavy equipment weighing 9,000 lbs.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Wednesday to La. 109 South in Starks in reference to heavy machinery falling on someone.

Investigators said Humphries was part of a crew performing work at a construction site.

According to officials, the investigation is ongoing but foul play is not suspected. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be conducting a separate investigation.
