NFLPA Survey: Matt Eberflus rated worst head coach in 2024

CHICAGO (WGN) — The NFL Players Association released the results of their annual players survey Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. While the Chicago Bears finished in the upper half of NFL teams overall, several categories left much to be desired, including head coach, where Matt Eberflus finished dead last among all 32 teams.

As is tradition every year at the combine, the NFLPA releases the findings of an anonymous player survey designed to take a look into the working conditions of all 32 teams around the league.

Players are surveyed in 11 categories—treatment of families, food/dining area, nutritionist/dietician, locker room, training room, training staff, weight room, strength coaches, team travel, head coach, and ownership.

In total, 1,695 players provided information to share with one another about their current club in 2025, which the NFLPA said was to not only help them make important career decisions, but also help raise standards across the league.

The Bears finished 14th overall, with their highest marks coming from team facilities. Chicago’s weight room received an “A” grade from players and finished sixth in the NFL. The Bears locker room (8th) and training room (11th) followed closely behind, receiving “A-” and “B+” grades each, respectively.

Ownership also received high marks with an “A-” grade, finishing 13th in the NFL.

According to the NFLPA, the most frequent complaint from players in Chicago was with their former head coach Matt Eberflus. Players said they felt like he lacked a willingness to listen the players and the players’ leadership council, and he mismanaged the weekly team schedule.

Outside of poor reviews for Eberflus, the Bears also ranked 19th or worse in five additional categories—team travel, nutritionist/dietician, treatment of families, strength coaches and food/dining area, the last of which being their second-worst category behind head coach.
