Kevin McNamara, a former P.E. teacher and athletic trainer at Yorktown High School, has been charged with six counts of misdemeanor battery in relation to the allegations. Court documents accuse McNamara of knowingly touching the girls in a “rude, insolent, or angry manner.”
Yorktown Police recently received complaints about McNamara and eventually interviewed a total of six students, the police chief told FOX59/CBS4. The complaints against the teacher reportedly center around a P.E. lesson in which McNamara was teaching students how to keep tennis balls in their shorts.
A mother of one of the victims told FOX59/CBS4 that McNamara was showing students that they could keep tennis balls in their pants while playing. The mother alleges that McNamara pulled her daughter’s bottoms to the side and placed a tennis ball near her waistband.
Another victim’s mother told us that McNamara was doing a similar tennis lesson during her daughter’s class when he inappropriately touched the student. He reportedly stuck a tennis ball up the girl’s shorts from the bottom. The ball soon fell out, and McNamara allegedly tried to put the ball back in her shorts several times.
Parents who spoke to FOX59/CBS4 said McNamara only did this to female students who were all in different gym class periods. The incidents reportedly occurred just before Halloween last year.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday that McNamara was not arrested for these crimes, only criminally charged. Because of this, no mugshot exists for McNamara.
The Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office said on Wednesday they cannot speak on pending cases. However, officials did confirm that McNamara has a pretrial conference scheduled for Thursday in Muncie City Court – during which attorneys will meet and try to “resolve” the case.
Greg Hinshaw, the superintendent of Yorktown Schools, confirmed Wednesday that McNamara was employed as a physical education teacher and athletic trainer from Aug. 2003 until he resigned in Nov. 2024. A yearbook photo of McNamara can be seen below:
Police said after the incidents were reported to Yorktown High School staff and after the story spread amongst students and victims, a total of six female students came forward with similar allegations against McNamara.
Given the allegations, McNamara has been charged with six counts of battery – a Class B misdemeanor. Each charge can carry a maximum penalty of up to 180 days in prison.
No other information was immediately provided by Yorktown school officials. At the time of this article’s publication, no mugshot or probable cause affidavit is available as McNamara has not been arrested or booked into jail.
