WKU senior enters wrong home, is fatally shot

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Western Kentucky University student was shot and killed after entering the wrong apartment.

Bowling Green police responded to a call just before 1 a.m. on Sunday from a resident reporting someone kicking on their door, according to a news release.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

The Bowling Green Police Department said the resident stayed on the line with dispatch while officers were on their way, but when the intruder made it into the apartment, he was shot and killed by the resident.

Police identified the man as 23-year-old Matthew Maggart, of Brentwood, Tennessee.

Investigators said they believe Maggart was impaired and lived in the complex, entering the wrong apartment by mistake.

Maggart was set to graduate from WKU in May.

The investigation is ongoing.
