KEARNS, Utah (ABC4) — Nearly 4,000 residents and businesses lost power on Wednesday morning, Feb. 26.
According to Rocky Mountain Power, 3,870 customers lost power just before 7 a.m. It is currently unclear what caused the outage but David Eskelsen with Rocky Mountain Power told ABC4.com that crews are on scene at the substation and investigating.
Those same crews are conducting repairs to restore power to the Kearns area as soon as possible. According to Rocky Mountain Power’s outage tracker, power is expected to be fully restored by 10 a.m.
Power may be restored earlier or later, depending on the cause of the outage, according to Rocky Mountain Power. The initial estimated restoration time is set about three hours from the time of the first outage report. Rocky Mountain Power said this number is based on the average restoration times which is refined as crews investigate the damage.
Restoration begins by using outage reports to help pinpoint where the damage is causing the outage. Crews will then be dispatched and assess conditions for public and crew safety and develop a restoration plan.
Crews may also patrol lines and check substations, clearing any downed power lines for public safety. Should you come across any downed power lines, Rocky Mountain Power says to treat them as though they are live and keep your distance.
Rocky Mountain Power crews will work first on restoring power to the greatest number of people as quickly as possible. Afterward, crews will use distribution and tap lines to restore power in concentrated areas before finally working to restore power to remaining individual homes and businesses.
