Report: Multiple UNO basketball players named in sports gambling investigation

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Percy “Master P” Miller was introduced as the UNO Privateers’ new President of Basketball Operations Wednesday, but the big story was a reported sports gambling investigation that has kept some key players off the court.

College basketball analyst Jeff Goodman reported the investigation on social media and pointed out that players like UNO leading scorer James White, Jah Short, Dae Dae Hunter and Jamond Vincent have all been out since UNO’s first matchup with UIW on Jan. 27.

The WGNO Sports team learned Monday night that James White was not playing because he violated team rules.

Vincent was at the Privateers’ game Monday against East Texas A&M but he was not dressed out and was not on the bench.

When asked about the report during a press conference on Wednesday, UNO Interim AD Vince Gratino said it is an internal matter, and they had no further comment since it was an ongoing investigation.

The Privateers are currently 4-25, 2-16 in Southland Conference play.
