Man guilty of ramming car with children inside during fit of road rage

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — It didn’t even take a jury a full hour to find Deshawn Moore guilty in a road rage incident where he threatened the lives of a family.

Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner announced that Moore was found guilty on Monday of criminal recklessness, a Level 6 felony, and reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor.

Deshawn Moore (Johnson Co. Jail)

According to court records, Moore is accused of intentionally chasing after another vehicle and ramming the victim’s vehicle with his car. Moore’s road rage was reportedly sparked by the victim swerving out to avoid a parked car and almost hitting Moore’s vehicle.

Moore was so angry by the near miss that he was accused of turning his car around and chasing after the victim and ramming their vehicle. The victim fled from Moore, who continued to give chase, until police arrived and took the aggressor into custody.

Two small children were in the victim’s vehicle at the time of the incident.

“This kind of dangerous and reckless behavior is exactly why our taxpayers built our jail—to protect our citizens from dangerous people who think it’s okay to bully their fellow citizens and endanger their lives on the streets,” Hamner said.

Moore will be sentenced on April 3. A Level 6 felony carries a sentence of up to two and a half years in prison.

“We will be asking for a substantial jail sentence for this defendant to both teach him a lesson and to deter others from dangerous behavior like this. The only way to protect our citizens is to hold those who choose to endanger our families accountable for their behavior,” Hamner said.
