Bruins fly past the competition in second indoor meet of season

PORTLAND, Ore. (GFU Athletics) — The George Fox track and field team hosted their second indoor meet of the season, blowing away the competition in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

The Bruins picked up their first win of the meet in the very first final of the afternoon; the men’s 60m hurdles. Blake Smith clinched first place in 8.44 seconds in yet another strong showing of form.

Fox also excelled in the women’s 60m hurdles, as Ayahna Bahati set a new PR with her time of 9.23 seconds, good enough for second place and No. 6 in Fox Indoor history. The mark also earned her a national ranking, the 71st best time of the season thus far. Jenna Huntsman wasn’t too far behind her placing fourth at 9.31 seconds, good enough for T-7 in the Fox record books.

The Bruins’ next podium came in the first field event of the day, the women’s long jump. Victoria Azar took home second place with a new PR mark of 5.45m, which ranks 50th nationally for the season and puts her No. 6 all-time in the George Fox Indoor record books.

Blake Smith picked up another win for Fox the men’s long jump, jumping 6.65m to beat out the competition by 25cm. Owen Gurney also picked up a podium finish, securing third place with his mark of 6.38cm.
