According to a press release, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office contacted the DNR around 10:38 a.m. Deputies told the DNR a person may be stuck in a body of water in the 8900 block of Sassafras Road in Bloomfield.
Police believed a person was stuck in the water because they discovered footprints that led to a hole in the lake’s icy surface. Eastern Green Fire Territory subsequently deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle and located a cell phone sitting on top of the ice.
At approximately 1:17 p.m., the DNR’s conservation officers found the body of 83-year-old Louis White 14 feet underwater in the lake.
As of this article’s publication, no additional information on White’s death had been made available.
