A Baton Rouge police officer spoke with someone who was there to do a nurse check at a home on Calumet Street around 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22. That person described the man’s condition as “in a severe state of degrade,” adding that care was refused on Wednesday, Feb. 19, and Friday, Feb. 21, according to the affidavit.
“The victim was observed to be covered in urine that had soaked through two Depends, the blankets, pillows, clothing and down to the plastic mattress of his hospital bed,” arrest documents said. Police said the man had open bed sores and “borderline necrosis of the toes and feet.” He was taken to the hospital.
Angela Givens, 40, was identified as the significant other and primary caregiver of the man in hospice care. Police noted she had previously been charged with domestic abuse.
Givens was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Saturday. She remains in jail and her bond has not been set.
