By rssfeeds-admin On Friday, the City of Greenwood spent part of the day doing work along Smith Valley Road.
This comes after a lot of places throughout the state have been dealing with pothole problems all winter.
“If you hit them, it can damage your tires, your rims and your wheels, all that stuff, and nobody likes replacing flat tires,” said Tyler Smith, a local driver.
But some places are not seeing as much of a pothole issue this year compared to others.
“Around here, it’s not that bad,” said Mark Rubbo, another local driver. “Greenwood is not that bad, but Indianapolis, who knows.”
Our FOX59/CBS4 team spent the day driving around different parts of Johnson County, checking out roads in Greenwood, Whiteland, New Whiteland and Franklin, watching crews fill potholes and speaking with drivers along the way.
“I have been seeing a lot of potholes, mainly in the city [Indianapolis],” Smith said. “Greenwood is not too bad where I am from, but [in the city], they are just big gaping holes in the road that really need to be solved and fixed.”
There tend to be fewer potholes across Johnson County than in Marion County, and there are several reasons why this is the case. Officials here say one of the reasons is that a lot of the roads are newer. There are also fewer drivers and fewer miles to take care of compared to places like Indianapolis or Louisville.
“Keep your eyes peeled,” Rubbo said. “Last week, I went over that Second Street Bridge in Louisville, and it was so bad. I hit that thing, and I thought, ‘What the heck was that.’ I mean, it had to be at least a foot deep.”
As temperatures warm back up over the next few days, more crews can get out filling potholes in places that need it most.
“Just be careful. Take your time and just be safe,” Smith said.
