The first robbery occurred just before 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, in the 3700 block of East State Street. Police say that’s where 29-year-old Christian Medrano entered a store and acted like he was purchasing an item. He then allegedly shoved a clerk to the ground once the cash register opened, grabbed money from the register and fled.
Police say on Feb. 14, Medrano entered a business in the 1000 block of Charles Street and jumped over the counter as the clerk was ringing up another customer. Just like in the East State Street incident, police say he allegedly took money from the register and exited the store.
Medrano was arrested Friday and booked into the Winnebago County Jail. He’s charged with aggravated battery in a public place, robbery and theft.
