
According to a post on social media from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Hayden Dedrick was arrested on Thursday for his alleged role in a triple shooting that occurred on Jan. 2 in the 3200 block of Capsella Lane. Dedrick was arrested on preliminary charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery.
Just before 9 p.m. on Jan. 2, officers with IMPD’s southeast district were called to a home on Capsella Lane.
According to previous reports, officers found three men with gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene. One of the men, later identified as 29-year-old Sebastian Jones, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Through interviews with individuals at the scene, the post read that detectives learned a disturbance occurred at the home. Officials state that a struggle reportedly occurred between Jones and another individual in the home.
At one point, detectives believe that Dedrick fired shots at Jones to protect his friend. IMPD’s post read that Dedrick left to retrieve more ammunition and returned to fire additional shots. Three people inside the home were struck with gunfire, including Jones. At the time, IMPD officers reportedly located and seized firearms and shell casings at the scene.
The post read that Dedrick, as well as other individuals, reportedly had a conversation with officers the evening of the shooting. They were released pending further investigation.
After further investigation, the post read that an arrest warrant for Dedrick was obtained on Feb. 18. Dedrick was located on Thursday and was taken into custody by IMPD detectives with the U.S. Marshalls Task Force.
The post read that the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
“At this time, the MCPO has determined the shooting death of Mr. Jones to be a justifiable action in the defense of another,” the post read.
