Docs: Hartford City man charged after reportedly sexually abusing family member for years

HARTFORD CITY, Ind. — A Hartford City man has been charged with rape and child molesting after he reportedly assaulted a family member several times since she was 4 years old.

According to court documents filed earlier this month in Blackford County, 39-year-old Jason Dolen has been charged with:

  • One count of rape, a Level One felony
  • One count of rape, a Level 3 felony
  • One count of child molesting, a Level 4 felony
  • One count of incest, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of sexual battery, a Level 6 felony
  • One count of criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony
  • Misdemeanor drug charges and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges

On Feb. 14, officials with the Blackford County Sheriff’s Department spoke with a teen about alleged sexual abuse from a family member, a man later identified as Dolen. The teenager told officials that she had reportedly been sexually abused by Dolen since she was 4 years old.

During the conversation with deputies, the teen provided details on multiple sexual abuse encounters involving Dolan, the most recent of which reportedly occurred before Thanksgiving in 2024.

In one instance, the teenager told deputies that Dolen wore a mask and reportedly sexually abused her. After the incident, Dolen reportedly took off the mask and told her that it was “ok” and that “the monsters are gone.” The court documents also included details regarding multiple instances where Dolen reportedly sexually abused the teen while driving.

“(The teenager) stated that (Dolen) has abused her almost every day since she was 13 years old,” the documents said. “…(The teen) stated she told (Dolen) to stop every time he abused her. (The teenager) stated that when she would tell (Dolen) to stop, it seemed like he would want it more.”

Deputies then conducted a search of Dolen’s home in Hartford City. The documents said that multiple drug-related items were seized.

When deputies attempted to interview Dolen, he reportedly told them that “he wished to speak to his attorney and not speak” with them. Dolen then asked what his charges were, to which he reportedly responded: “Well, the marijuana I agree with 100%.”

According to court documents, Dolen’s jury trial is scheduled to begin on June 10 in Blackford County Court.
