Katrina Brees, founder of the Krewe of Kolossos, wanted to add to her “zoo” of animal tricycles and bicycles.
This year you’ll see a new bike, a Scrim bike representing the mischievous Houdini-like pup, which makes a perfect fit for the Krewe of Kolossos due to Scrim’s “pup-ularity.”
“I think everyone sees a little piece of themselves in Scrim. He survived the streets, even though he’s a little white dog.
Now’s your chance to live like Scrim on the streets, parading in the Krewe of Barkus, but no dashing off like Scrim.
“We are auctioning off this ride on Scrim in Barkus,” she said.
So far the bidding to ride in the Krewe of Barkus is up to $500, with all the money raised going to Zeus’ Rescues, which rescued Scrim.
“People love to parade, people love Scrim, people love Barkus, people love dogs, the combination is just the perfect experience,” Brees said.
Lots of “puppy love” went into creating the Scrim bike.
“I really studied Scrim to make this. It took about a month to get the pieces together with paint faux fur, glue, paper mache and recycled plastics,” she said.
She said other features are the nose, which is 3D printed to be a replica of a real dog’s nose, and she added googly eyes, and even a tail.
“Everyone that sees it, knows that it is Scrim,” she said.
The auction to ride the Scrim bike ends on Friday, Feb 21. Click here if you’d like to bid on the ride.
The Krewe of Barkus rolls on Sunday, Feb. 23.
