According to an HCSO Facebook post, deputies were called to the intersection of State Road 38 and Hinkle Road around 9:15 a.m. Monday to investigate a crash involving a WPD K-9 officer and pickup truck driver.
HCSO reported that the motorist who allegedly struck the WPD officer’s car was driving a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the crash. Investigators believe the truck was manufactured sometime between 2007 and 2012.
The driver of the truck was travelling northbound on Moontown Road before the crash. The truck driver and WPD officer ultimately crashed into each other at a nearby intersection.
After the crash, the truck’s driver fled the scene northbound on Hinkle Road. HCSO indicated that the truck’s front bumper fell off during the crash.
The sheriff’s office provided two photos of the suspect vehicle in its Facebook post:
Law enforcement is encouraging anyone with information on the crash or the suspect vehicle to call HCSO’s investigations division at (317) 776-9897. HCSO’s tips line can also be reached by dialing (317) 776-5848.
