12 people confirmed dead from Kentucky flooding

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Governor Andy Beshear has updated the death toll to 12 people confirmed dead from the flooding in Kentucky.

One of the confirmed deaths was a child who was inside a vehicle that was swept away by flood waters.

Governor Beshear says the entire state has been affected by the massive flooding in some way. He says crews are still in the search and rescue phase.

Beshear also stresses the importance of not driving through standing water or around barricades.

“We need to make sure that we are not creating additional emergency situations,” says Governor Beshear. “So that all of our first responders can focus one those that we know are stranded and need help.”

Governor Beshear says the biggest concerns are flooding along rivers and creeks, and the snow storm expected Tuesday night through Wednesday could bring several inches of snow to Western Kentucky.
