Merced officials ask for help finding stolen zoo sign
MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE)- The City of Merced Parks and Recreation Department is asking the community to keep their eyes open for some beloved stolen property.

In a Sunday morning social media post that has been shared among various Merced officials, the Parks and Recreation department appealed to the community to help it locate the Applegate Zoo sign which had just been installed last month.

According to the post, the sign was stolen.

The sign guides school groups and other visitors to the zoo’s facility, which has existed since 1962. Applegate Zoo houses approximately 75 Native California mammals, birds, and reptiles, most of which were previously at wildlife rescue centers.

The Parks and Recreation Department is asking anyone who may live near the zoo and noticed suspicious activity, or knows the whereabouts of the sign, to please contact the Merced Police Department at 209-385-6905.
