Snow approaches Chicagoland: What to expect

Expect a couple hours of steady snowfall late this evening before diminishing to scattered snow showers overnight.

Much of the area will see 1-2 inches from this first round with a few northern locations closer to 3 inches.

Throughout the day on Saturday we’ll see dry periods with cloudy skies and a few waves of scattered wintry precipitation. Expect snow, rain and freezing rain at times with a better chance of snow to the north and a better chance of rain to the south.

We’re expecting less than a half an inch of additional snow accumulation Saturday and minimal ice accumulation.

By Saturday night and into early Sunday morning, we transition back over to mainly snow with below freezing temperatures.

Expect scattered snow showers leading to an additional 1 to 2 inches of accumulation by Sunday morning with highest totals to the north near the Wisconsin border.
