St. Rose man found guilty of raping 59-year-old Metairie woman

METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — A St. Rose man was found guilty on Wednesday following the rape of a 59-year-old woman, which happened inside of a Metairie apartment on May 13, 2023.

According to the office of Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick Jr., 65-year-old Paul J. Beebe Jr. was at his brother’s apartment, located in the 6300 block of Riverside Drive, at the same time as the victim.

Beebe reportedly became intoxicated and passed out and slept on the living room floor. The next morning, he groped the victim, who was sleeping on a recliner.

The brother then left for work, leading Beebe to escalate his behavior, reportedly telling the victim “I got you now,” before beating the victim, dragging her to a bedroom, strangling and raping her.

Officials say he fell asleep at the kitchen table afterward, leaving the injured victim to flee, covered with a bedsheet. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted about the incident and Beebe’s DNA was found during a sexual assault exam.

Beebe claimed that the sexual activity was consensual, but after two-and-a-half hours, a jury found him guilty of first-degree rape. He is scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
