45-year-old Kristofer McMullen is facing several felony charges, including disseminating child pornography, possessing child pornography, failing to register as a sex offender and giving false information while violating the sex offender registration act, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser announced Friday.
According to prosecutors, between Jan. 2 and Jan. 8, McMullen allegedly possessed and disseminated child pornography in the form of digital videos.
Prosecutors said McMullen reasonably should have known that the videos depicted children under 13 years of age and in some cases much younger.
In addition to the child sex abuse material, prosecutors allege that McMullen violated the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act when he failed to register as a sex offender and allegedly provided false residency information to the Elgin Police Department.
It is not McMullen’s first run-in with the law. Back in 2007, he was convicted on child pornography charges in Kane County.
McMullen is currently being detained in the Kane County jail and is set to return to court on Feb. 6.
