Pearl officer hired after making 'derogatory slurs' no longer employed
PEARL, Miss. (WJTV) – An officer, who was caught on camera making “derogatory slurs” while employed in Richland, is no longer employed with the Pearl Police Department.

Jeremy Rast was hired as a Pearl police officer in January 2025.

“Mr. Rast did not complete the employment process and is therefore no longer employed by the City of Pearl. As this is a personnel matter, that is my only statement regarding Mr. Rast,” said Pearl Police Chief Nick McLendon.

In June 2024, Rast was an officer with the Richland Police Department and was caught on camera making “derogatory slurs.”

In the video, Rast said, “Well why don’t you go back to Mexico or something? Whatever. I don’t care. Just get the (expletive) out of Richland for me, please. Because I don’t… I do not like y’all being here.”

The video also showed the officer calling the man an “illegal.” He also told the man to get out of the city, or he would find any reason to arrest them. Rast also mentioned that police have been called to the property several times.

Rast was relieved of his duties in Richland for his behavior. He resigned from his position as a patrol officer.
