Man wrecks stolen car, carjacks woman in Warren County: sheriff
WARREN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – An Arkansas man was arrested in Mississippi after he allegedly carjacked a person who stopped to help after a crash.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said deputies responded to an overturned vehicle on Paxton Road just before 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5. He said dispatch received reports of a carjacking at the same location while deputies were en route.

According to the sheriff, a woman got out of her vehicle, a 2021 Chevy Tahoe, to see if she could help. The driver of the wrecked vehicle, which was a 2015 Chevy Tahoe, allegedly pulled out a gun and carjacked the woman.

Deputies discovered the wrecked vehicle had been reported as stolen from Shaw, Mississippi. The gun in possession of the suspect was also reported as stolen.

Utica police later spotted the carjacked vehicle near Ike Dowe Road. Pace said the driver crashed through a gate and a fence and went through a pasture. He then ran away from the scene.

The driver, who was identified as Adrion Nevell Matthews, 32, was later spotted by the Utica police chief on Main Street and arrested. He’s now being held in the Warren County Jail.

Matthews has been charged in Warren County with armed carjacking, possession of a stolen firearm and receiving stolen property. He’s expected to face charged in Hinds and Bolivar counties.
