When we look at reported domain sales GoDaddy continues to dominate. Going through Namebio you see that GoDaddy is responsible year in and year out for roughly 65% of all reported domain sales at Namebio.
Note for those new to the domain industry, nearly all of these sales are expired auctions. For the most part prices attained are wholesale pricing except for certain names. Yes you have names that you cannot get $20 that sold for $1,000 here. This can be due to SEO metrics like backlinks and domain authority. It can also be due to auction frenzy where bidders don’t want to lose and might overpay on some less than stellar domain names.
2024 was a lower number of sales compared to 2023, yet there was $10M more in dollar volume compared to 2023.
Looking at the last 3 years, the number of sales has dropped each year since 2022 but dollar volume and average price is up.
